Roots Therapeutic Coaching is the Antidote
Our Roots™ Therapeutic Coaching program addresses the root systems involved with our struggles with life purpose, unhealthy relationships, goal attainment, addictive processes and depression & anxiety. We do this by focusing on the three systems that impact how we feel and what we do every moment of the day – our cognitive system, our emotional system and our physiological system. These systems work together to impact our Executive Functioning (EF). Executive Functioning is responsible for goal setting and attainment, new habit formation, learning, decision making and relationships.
Our evidence-based and proprietary approaches include:
Internal Family Systems and Parts Work
Impacts the deep and negative stories that we tell ourselves about ourselves.
Applied Polyvagal Theory
Impact the state of our unconscious nervous system.
Pia Mellody's Psychological and Emotional Boundary Work
How do we listen and communicate in healthy ways to ourselves and others.
Emotional System Development
How do we interact in healthy ways with our powerful emotional system.
Life Skills Development
Developing skills for self-sufficiency and self-advocacy.
Executive Functioning Advocacy
Changing the systems that help us set and achieve our goals.
Emotional System Unburdening
This is part of our optional trauma resolution workshop that utilizes Psychodrama and other Self-restoration modalities and approaches.
Mindfulness & Compassion
Developing moment-by-moment awareness of thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment, through a gentle, nurturing lens. This considerably reduces the internal conflict which often results in unhealthy acting-out behaviors.
Traditional sober coaching programs primarily deal with the cognitive system yet fail to address the underlying issues often buried in the unconscious part of our Emotional Operating System (EOS). It is those parts that often overwhelm us and cause us to return to the addictive processes, anxiety, depression and relational patterns that cause us so much pain.
“I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work”
– Thomas Edison
Our Roots Coaching Process
We have combined the best of our Roots Intensive Process with platinum level Life Coaches to help our client build, or rebuild a “life worth living”. We do this first and foremost through building a safe and trusting relationship with our clients.
Phase One
Introduction & Discovery
This is the first meeting with the client or the family where we discuss strengths, challenges, goals, desired outcomes and overall readiness. We also discuss any addictive process struggles and deal with any triage/urgent situations. At the Discovery meeting we help you determine which coach might be the best fit.
Phase Two
Trust & Explore
Usually consisting of two or three sessions between the coach and client where the focus is building trust and rapport while gathering insight about the client’s level of motivation and understanding their goals in their own words. At the same time working with client on recovery foundations. We begin weekly family touch-ins and family dynamic support.
Phase Three
True-North Plan™
During these sessions we use our proprietary True-North Plan™ as well as some other evidence-based coaching tools to plan out goals in a thoughtful and quantifiable way. We deep dive into motivations, hidden strengths and identify specific barriers that may hinder progress. Our True-North Plan™ assesses and builds priorities around the following areas:
- Recovery.
- Life Triage & Repair.
- Personal Growth.
- Coordination & compliance with mental health services & medication.
- Career & Employment.
- Spirituality.
- Fun and Recreation.
- Relationships & Community.
- Physical Environment.
- Health (Movement & Nutrition).
- Financial.
Phase Four
Goals & Science
Based on the assessments in the areas above we will prioritize specific goals to work on. We will do this using our Base Camp & Climb model. First, we will assess client “solo” readiness with each specific goal area and depending on where they are we will make a determination on how much direct coach support is needed. Our ultimate goal is “solo” climbs but as humans we all sometimes need higher levels of help – especially during new habit formation.
Together We Climb
Coach and Client are side by side performing the goal or new habit. Looking for a job, cleaning an apartment, making a healthy meal – whatever.
You Climb – I am Close
Client is leading the effort and coach is close by to lend support if needed.
Solo Climb
Client is their own and collaborating with Coach to see how things are going.
